Art by Desert View and Farson/Eden students exhibited at CFAC
ROCK SPRINGS —The third exhibit of this year’s youth art exhibits features Desert View and Stagecoach Elementary Schools at the Community Center for Fine Arts through March 19. The exhibition includes nearly 150 students presenting their works and they are under the direction of Annette Tanner and Susanne Whitson.
National Youth Art Month is observed in March each year, but CFAC hosts displays of student art from Sweetwater County School District No. 1 throughout the spring. This national statement recognizes the importance of art and arts education in school curricula. Art, music, and performing arts activities can help students develop life skills, including self-expression, problem-solving, creativity, individuality, and the ability to see life. beauty of traditional art forms and the world around them.
The CFAC continues to celebrate the importance of the arts in our schools by organizing annual exhibitions. As early as the 1930s, Rock Springs High School teacher Elmer Halseth encouraged his students to raise funds and helped them buy artwork to hang in their classrooms. In 1966 he arranged for the expanded art collection to be on public display and the Community Center for Fine Arts began to be a prominent feature of the town.
“It’s our favorite time of year, seeing the students’ artwork and how proud they are to show it off to their families! Whether it’s collages, pastels, marker drawings or watercolor painting, each piece is unique,” said CFAC Director Debora Soule. “The arts are important for all ages and we are so lucky to share that with the public.”
